1.basic information
puge in southeastern liangshan yi autonomous prefecture, sichuan province, is among the regions in extreme poverty along the wumeng mountain. covering 1,918 square kilometers, it consists of 34 towns and townships, 153 administrative villages, and eight urban communities. of its population of 211,400, yi ethnic minority accounts for 179,000, or 84.9 percent, and 185,900, or 92.7 percent, live on agriculture. its 2017 gdp and per capita gdp were respectively 2.465 billion yuan and 11,700 yuan (19.53 percent of the national average). at the end of 2017, its poverty headcount ratio stood at 20.4 percent, with 56 villages and 43,122 people of 9,563 households on the poverty roster. puge plans to shake off poverty by 2020.
its 2018 goal is to raise 12,600 people of 2,818 households and 25 villages above the poverty line.
2.poverty alleviation efforts in recent years
the group company launched a targeted poverty alleviation program in the county in 2013, which is undertaken by its sichuan energy company. three personnel from the company are selected to work temporarily in puge respectively as deputy county magistrate, deputy party secretary in a township, and party secretary concurrently in a township and a village.
in 2016 and 2017 the company appropriated 5 million yuan for the county. this includes 780,000 yuan for safe drinking water supply and activity centers for both party members and the general public, 4 million yuan to build the teaching and dormitory buildings of a township primary school, and 220,000 yuan to support a bee raising cooperative, which is expected to help create more incomes for poverty-stricken farmers in the region.
